PERDIKA

In ancient Greek mythology when Daedalus threw his nephew, Perdix, off the sacred hill of Athena the first partridge appeared. Remembering his fall, and out of an abundance of caution, this bird does not build its nest in the trees nor take lofty flights, and generally avoids high places. (Perdika is a small fishing village on the island of Aegina, and means 'partridge').

In Jeremiah 17 : 11, (King James Bible) it says: "As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool."

Land of the Low Flying Cloud

This EP selection is a re-issue of songs originally recorded for the album Strange Country (CD-R, released 2004), re-packaged here for download.  And specially selected for their thematic reminder of the cloud that regularly hangs about a metre above the rainforest and cane in the misty 'deep north' of Far North Queensland... and that metaphorical 'low flying cloud' that can often descend upon the zeitgeist.

Weight of Water coverBigfile.png

The Weight of Water

Of course, you can’t really measure anything precisely (it’s an illusion, ask any physicist).  But this doesn’t mean there isn’t any order, or any natural ‘laws’ that bind all our experience of relations as humans together.  Far from it.  That’s how we all understand the weight of water: we are all of us mostly made of water.  That’s the ‘matter’ that connects us.  But that ‘matter’ is immeasurable because it is always in a continuous state.  All Archimedes deduced was a relativity.  One that’s mathematically useful for keeping boats afloat.  But how useful for keeping hearts and minds afloat?  How useful for finding your 'true north'?  That’s the question…

Josephine Cover-framedbig.png

Josephine

"Josephine is the name of our songstress. Those who have never heard her sing simply haven't experienced the power of song. Everyone who hears her is pulled out of him or herself, transported..."  So begins Franz Kafka's Josephine the Songstress.

It's no surprise that we universally think of things like Country, and Nature itself, as a woman.  Country sings to us, and so does Nature, much as a mother does... you just have to listen.  This EP includes a re-issue of a few songs originally from the album Strange Country (which had a very limited distribution and airing).  Re-packaged here, this downloadable selection references a special relationship with places near Babinda in Far North Queensland (Australia).  Places that have been both the birthplace and final resting place of many a stranger...
